Healthiest Holiday: Part 1 of 4 (Fitness)

As we move towards the end of the year, the holiday season tends to bring a lot of joy, but it can also cause some stress. As your friendly-neighborhood personal trainer, here are a few tips to help you maintain a healthy balance during the festive season:

Plan Ahead

If you know that you have a big holiday meal coming up, plan your other meals accordingly. Make sure that you are consuming a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables to help keep your body fueled and energized. Be mindful of portion control. You can still enjoy your favorite foods, but make sure to balance it out with healthier options like vegetables and lean protein.

Practice Mindful Eating

When you’re at a holiday gathering, it’s easy to get caught up in the moment and overindulge. Try to be mindful of what you’re eating and how much you’re consuming. Take time to savor the flavors and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Stay hydrated and get enough rest to help your body recover from the holiday festivities.

Don't Skip Meals

Skipping meals in anticipation of a big holiday feast can actually backfire. It can cause you to overeat and make it harder to control your portions. Instead, eat a small, healthy meal beforehand to help you feel satisfied and prevent overindulging.

Stay Active

Physical activity is not only good for your physical health but also for your mental wellbeing. Try to incorporate physical activity into your day. Take a walk after your meal or participate in a family football game.

Manage Your Stress

The holiday season can be stressful, so it’s important to find ways to manage it. Take time for yourself to do things that you enjoy, like reading a book, taking a bath, or meditating. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or support from loved ones if you need it.

The holiday season is a time to enjoy yourself and spend time with loved ones. By practicing moderation and balance, you can have a happy and healthy holiday season.
